the really late scott pilgrim vs the world review; also known as my reunion with tumblr that isnt a post about finally being home again
scott pilgrim vs the world manages to give every comic book living hipster nerd what every comic book loving hipster wants in a movie: blatant video game references complete with a visual style that hits home for anyone who has ever held a controller, cute girls (or guys) they wish they could talk to in real life and a pretty decent lo-fi, grunge-synth filled sooundtrack. As for plot, while the whole fighting for a blue haired, hot topic wearing amazon delivery girl can almost get as cliche as michael cera’s “I’m an awkward yet witty musician-nice guy type” act, SPVTW still is able to present the storyline in a way that stays true to its graphic novel roots.
Without getting too much into the story, just know that there will be a coherently enjoyable progression of events and a satisfying ending, there will be jokes, and there will be great, great fight scenes (and lots of it). Bottom line, this is no nick and norah’s infinite playlist, despite it being set in canada.
